Offshore Pursuit - The Book
Every now and then you come accross a book that you think everybody should have. By everybody, I mean anybody who loves to fish offshore.I have found just such a book. Offshore Pursuit (no relationship to Offshore Pursuits), by John Unkart, is a book that has something for everyone. Read on...
Learn how to rig trolling baits like the pros do, with different methods to fit different situations. Find the most productive offshore trolling areas. Tease marlin to the hook. What baits each species prefers, methods of trolling, types of spreads, how to chunk for tuna, and when and how to use special tools such as kites, downriggers, and planers, are all covered in detail. Easy to understand diagrams, illustrations, and photographs take the mystery out of specialized offshore fishing knots, rigging techniques, and custom tackle design. Apply the tactics and techniques detailed by blue water fishing pro John Unkart, and your catch rate is bound to grow exponentially. Whether you're after billfish, mahi-mahi, wahoo or tuna, you'll gain the hard-earned insight and knowledge Unkart has accumulated through more than 40 years of offshore experience. From rigging techniques to tips on how to fight trophy fish, it’s all in this book.
About the author: John Unkart took his first offshore run over 40 years ago, and has worked the cockpit on charterboats like the Strike III and the Volcania professionally for over a decade. Writing how-to articles for magazines including Boating and The Fisherman, he quickly earned a reputation for straight talk and a no BS attitude. Unkart takes recreational blue-water anglers to the next level with his book Offshore Pursuit.
You can purchase Offshore Pursuit at Offshore Pursuits Premium Tackle (again, no relationship here).

Dave,
If fishermen don't get involved in the herring debate they will be on the outside looking in shortly.
We are on the upside of a resurgence of striped bass. It won't last long. How many of you remember the late seventy's and early eighty's?
If you don't get involved now you will see it all over again.
Sad, very sad.
I agree. At Offshore Pursuits I am publishing any and all relavent information and statistics geared towards the herring crisis. I think we did well in what we did with CHOIR when they were trying to get the regulations for the Gulf of Maine passed.
I think it is great that it went through, and I am very interested (as are very many people) to see what immediate impact (if any) this will have on the tuna fishery in that area for 2007.
Now is not the time to let up though. Many of you saw the herring fleet east of Chatham this fall, and what effect it had on the tuna fishing. We need to get the same regulations that went in to effect in the Gulf of Maine to cover the rest of the areas also.
If you have relavent comments or concerns that you need or want put in front of the fishing community, please don't hesitate to email me at dave@offshorepursuits.com. I will get back to you promptly, and we will get the info out. Dave
